Bug Description
- works with Karmic kernel: 2.6.31-21.59
- does not work with Lucid kernel: 2.6.32-22.33
- Ubuntu's mainline kernel works however is broken in a different way: 2.6.34-
When using Lucid's Kernel 2.6.32-22.33, then one of the following things happen when I suspend either through the menu or by closing the lid:
* the laptop starts to suspend, locks the screen, works for a while and nothing
happens and I have to unlock the screen to get back to the desktop
* the laptop will blank the screen but the power leds will stay on, as if the
laptop was on, however the fan is not working, suggesting that the
laptop is actually off
* the laptop will blank the screen but will stay on. Since I couldn't figure out how
to make it light on the screen again I had to shut it down.
I checked the dmesg and kern.log logs but couldn't find anything conclusive in there.
Ubuntu's mainline kernel: 2.6.34-
When I boot into it, the only thing I shortly see is "Starting Up..." and then the screen goes blank and stays that way. The fan goes to max and the air coming out becomes really hot. Then since apparently the bootup process is telling me that it can't mount some non-automount partition i press "S" and the boot continues. Out of the blue the login appears. I log in and I see that udevd is turning at 100% CPU.

Hi Tomas,
If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https:/ /wiki.ubuntu. com/KernelMainl ineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs- upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs- upstream- testing' text. Please let us know your results.
Thanks in advance.
