Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-intel

Monitor is connected via SDVO DVI adapter card.

About once every two days, and unpredictably, the monitor doesn't wake up after a period of inactivity. It is possible to SSH into the machine. Nothing relevant appears in the logs.

This bug has only surfaced since doing a fresh install of Lucid. The machine used to have Hardy on it, which didn't have this problem.

Looking more closely at the logs, this appeared in my syslog when the bug manifested itself yesterday for the first time in eight days:

May 28 13:56:27 greengage kernel: [683758.866789] [drm:drm_mode_getfb] *ERROR* invalid framebuffer id

Hmm. It's just done it again, and no such message appeared in the syslog.

I don't think this error message is anything to do with the bug - it just occurs whenever I switch between X and VT. There are several other bug reports of that, so please ignore my previous two comments.

The fault appeared again. I ssh'd into the box and stopped the X server (sudo service gdm stop). This killed the X server but still the monitor stayed off. I guess this implies it's a kernel bug.

Further info: I disabled the screensaver for about four weeks and the bug didn't occur in that time. I turned the screensaver back on and the bug occurred the day after. It looks as though the bug is something to do with the screensaver.

Could this be the earliest known pageflip race? Fixed at last.
