Hi squiddy,

If you could also please test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. Please let us know your results.

Thanks in advance.

results are: the temp is climbing, the fan also spins constantly at high speed even on idle.

The situation should be greatly improved in kernel 2.6.35. See http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODE5Mg and http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODIyOA

This kernel is being used in the upcoming Ubuntu 10.10 "Maverick Meerkat". If you want to try this on Ubuntu 10.04 "Lucid Lynx", a PPA of kernel 2.6.35-rc6 can be found at http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/

The final version of kernel 2.6.35 should be available soon.
