Bug Description

Binary package hint: nvidia-settings

OS Release: Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid)
Package: nvidia-settings (195.36.08-0ubuntu2)

---

When I start "nvidia-settings", navigate to the "X Server Display Configuration" section and click "Save to X Configuration File", an error is displayed and the configuration is not saved:

root@famzahpc:~# nvidia-settings
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/screen-resolution-extra/nvidia-polkit.py", line 20, in <module>
import gtk, gobject, sys, dbus, logging, os, re
ImportError: No module named gtk

ERROR: Unable to open X config file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' for writing.

---

A Python module is missing. This is fixed and confirmed by:

root@famzahpc:~# apt-get install python-gtk2
root@famzahpc:~# nvidia-settings
# after that, in the "X Server Display Configuration" section, clicking "Save to X Configuration File" works fine

No more Python errors and saving works properly.

The root issue is screen-resolution-extra, which does not depend on python-gtk2 as it should.
nvidia-settings correctly depend on screen-resolution-extra
