Bug Description

Binary package hint: kdeutils

I upgraded from Karmic (9.10) to Lucid and the crash ICON showed up at the panel. I could not get to see what it was because I had the problem of not having access to my keyboard and or mouse. I spent hours researching the potential fix for the keyboard/mouse issue and took several actions.

One such action was to modify Grub and 00_header files but then ended up with a deadly Signal out of range issue . I then used a live CD to bring up Karmic trolled over to the /etc/grub file made another change then tried to do a update-grub but landed on "no device for / found".

I then decided to make the change manually in the grub.cfg file and was able after several reboots and a aptitude safe and then full upgrade (the 2nd pair after the initial upgrade step) to get back into Lucid which is when I was able to see the printer crash issue - so I'm not sure really when it happened but I think it was right after the initial karmic to lucid upgrade.

By the way the change I manually made to the grub.cfg, 00_header and grub files was to use 1024x768. This may or may not have helped me get to the splash screen ( which I was not seeing before) or maybe there has been a new set of releases which my upgrade actions pulled in - not sure.

In any event my version of Lucid is up and running fine now - thanks to the entire Team of brilliant folks working on this - looks GREAT!!

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #350668. However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the problem is in a dependent package.
