Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

update-manager no longer shows up in the systray when updates are available in Xubuntu (Xubuntu has the pop up behavior disabled via gconf key) . It does however show up, grayed out, when apt is running. Right clicking and selecting show updates when it is in the systray shows the available updates as expected.

Thanks for reporting this bug and any supporting documentation. Since this bug has enough information provided for a developer to begin work, I'm going to mark it as confirmed and let them handle it from here.

I can confirm this issue in xubuntu Lucid 386. I have two systems running Lucid, one is a 386 and the other is a 64bit athlon. The 64bit installation does give me a notification of updates available. the 386 installation does not give the notifications.

To clarify, the network-manager icon on the 386 appears gray, as described by the OR. It used to be orange when updates were available.

Interestingly, my system is 64bit. However, I've seen the update-notifier icon like usual once or twice now. However, thats not to say something isn't off still. If I do apt-get update and the update-notifier shows up grayed out, why doesn't it appear orange immediately afterwards to show me updates are available when it knows updates are available?

As of 2010-04-04, I do get an orange icon indication updates are available on my 386 installation.
