Bug Description
I'm getting messages instead of Plymouth. When I drop to the shell this is what I get:
[ 24.082115] vboxdrv: Warning: 2.6.31 Kernel detected most likely the hardware performance
[ 24.082117] vboxdrv: counter framework which can generate NMIs is active. You have to prevent
[ 24.082119] vboxdrv: the usage of hardware performance counters by
[ 24.082121] vboxdrv: echo 2 > /proc/sys/
What i find very weird is the 2.6.31 kernel detection.
This bug could be tied to the a GPU driver related bug that has been annoying me since I installed (via usb) Lucid on this computer. When the system boots the GDM never loads so I have to drop to the shell with ctrl+alt+F1 wait for a few seconds until the computer loads the GDM, then ctrl+alt+F7 (sometimes F8) to see the GDM, when I enter the password, drop to the shell once more and wait for the desktop to load and once again, ctrl+alt+F7 or F8. If I don't do this after selecting my name on the GDM the desktop will load partially and the cursor flashes, I get black borders around the notifications and nothing else loads. The notification that pops up says:" Could not switch monitor configuration - could not set the configuration for CRTC 64. When I recover the PC from sleep it happens and the notification pops up like crazy for minutes and the cursor flashes. This also happens when viewing videos on Totem or any other player. Viewing videos on the internet works well though.

vurtualspectre8,
I have been told that plymouth not showing up is common and is caused, for the most part, by the graphics drivers needing to load faster. I'll speak with the kernel team to see if there is anything that can be done to address this or if there has been some work upstream to address.
Thanks!
