ubuntu can't mount or does not see my 2nd DVD ROM drive

Bug Description

This only happened when I upgraded from ubuntu 9.04 to 9.10 -- before then, everything was fine.

I insert a DVD in to my second DVD ROM and I no longer see a mount icon on the desk top. Applications that read the DVD ROMs can access the DVD in the drive. It seems as if ubuntu can't see it.

meshellwm,
If you do an LSPCI, do you see the device? If so please attach that output to this bug. If not, please list for us here a description of the hardware on the device that is not being seen.

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for your email.

I entered the command (lspci) and have attached the output in lspci.txt. I don't see any reference to either DVD drive. I have enclosed a screen shot of the file browser that shows the drives. I have 2 DVD optical drives. One is a DVD-RW and the other is an old DVD ROM. If I place a DVD in the -RW drive, ubuntu mounts and a get an icon on the desktop. If I place a DVD in the ROM drive, nothing happens. I can, however, rip the DVD in both drives via AcidRip.

If you need more info, let me know...

I have the same problem, but it is not consistent.
I just installed a second dvd-drive and have now this:
- first dvd-drive : dvd-rom sata samsung
- second dvd-drive : dvd-writer ide philips

Discs in the second dvd-drive are not mounted.
But after changing the disc in the first dvd-drive, and after running "sudo lshw", a disc in the second dvd-drive was mounted.
I could also burn a disc, without affecting the movie running from the first dvd-drive.

After a restart, it returned to the initial situation and a disc in the second dvd-drive was not mounted.
