Bug Description

Update from Jaunty to karmic yesterday.
2.6.31-14-generic #48-Ubuntu SMP Fri Oct 16 14:05:01 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux
After this my webcam ID 046d:09a1 Logitech, Inc. QuickCam Communicate MP/S5500
stoped working.
It gets detected by vlc cheese skype and so on burt i cant see any picture even in luvcview no picture.

hmmm, the bug seems to be fixed with kernel update from today.
2.6.31-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Fri Nov 6 09:55:13 UTC 2009 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Seems that this was resolved with the 2.6.31-15.49 update. Closing as per submitters testing.

Seems that this worked for one boot following a kernel update. That tends to imply its intemittant. Either way its not fixed, reopening.

bug still there.
after fresh install of an kernel it works for a time.
then after i rebootet 2 or 3 times it gets detected it starts but the oicture is absolutely black.
maybe an v4l or nvidia driver bug ?

I have been experiencing this bug with the exact same webcam for several months now. The camera is detected and shows up when I do an lsusb, but the video device /dev/video0 fails to open. I did some research on google, and this post seems to have a solution.

Apparently there is a patch to fix this that is not officially maintained. If someone could at least walk through how to apply it, that would be great.
